Measles, Mumps & Rubella Vaccination

Measles, Mumps & Rubella is a highly contagious viral infection that can lead to serious health complications.

These complications can include:

  • Measles – Pneumonia, inflation of the brain                                         
  • Mumps – Inflammation of the brain or heart muscle
  • Rubella – miscarriages and can cause serious birth defects

The MMR vaccination is a single combined vaccine that fights against measles, mumps, and rubella diseases.

Who should have the MMR vaccine?

  • Children (first dose at 12-18 months and second at 4-6 years)
  • Adults
  • Travelling overseas
  • Planning to get pregnant
  • People working in the healthcare industry

Any side effects? 

  • Soreness, rash, or redness
  • Fever or swelling

Aftercare

The pharmacist will ask you to remain in the pharmacy for 15 minutes after being vaccinated to monitor any adverse reactions and to answer any questions. The pharmacist will also recommend drinking plenty of fluids and resting.
